Moral Freedom
Abraham Lincoln once said, "Freedom is not the right to do what we want, but what we ought."
“Moral freedom is not the right to do what you want—it is the strength to do what is right. Moral freedom is not the absence of restraint, but rather it is a resolve to honor God’s design of purity and holiness. Moral freedom is liberty that comes from knowing the truth of God’s Word and living in harmony with that truth by the power of God’s Holy Spirit.”
In John 8:31-32, Jesus said, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
In John 17:17 Jesus prayed, "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth."
Truth
Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.
(Say...) I hide, treasure, and store up God's Word in my heart by thinking on it over and over and speaking it day and night. By establishing this habit, I will have success over every temptation to sin against God..
(Pray...) Father God, I thank you for giving me these instructions so that I will experience victory over sin. According to Isaiah 55:11, your word shall not return to you without effect, but it will accomplish that which you desire and will succeed where you've sent it.
Proverbs 4:23-27 Watch over your heart with all diligence; For from it flow the springs of life. Put away from you a deceitful mouth and put devious speech far from you. Let your eyes look directly ahead And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you. Watch the path of your feet And all your ways will be established. Do not turn to the right nor to the left; Turn your foot from evil.
I guard and watch over my heart with all diligence; For from it flows the springs of life. I put away a crooked mouth and put perverse, devious speech far away. My eyes look directly ahead and my gaze is fixed straight in front of me. I watch the path of my feet and all my ways will be established. I don't turn to the right nor to the left; I turn my foot from evil.
Father, I guard and watch over my heart with all diligence; For from it flows the springs of life. I put away a crooked mouth and put perverse, devious speech far away. My eyes look directly ahead and my gaze is fixed straight in front of me. I watch the path of my feet and all my ways will be established. I don't turn to the right nor to the left; I turn my foot from evil, in Jesus' name.
2 Timothy 2:19 Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
I confess that Jesus is my Lord. I withdraw and flee from iniquity.
Lord Jesus, I thank you that you paid the penalty for my sins. In obedience to your Word, I will withdraw and flee from iniquity when tempted.
Job 31:1 I have made a covenant with my eyes; Why then should I look upon a young woman?
Matt 5:28 but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
I have made a pledge with my eyes to not look inappropriately at a woman?
Lord Jesus, since looking at a woman with inappropriate desire is committing sexual sin in my heart, please give me the strength to overcome this temptation.
2 Corinthians 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.
I take down and demolish imaginations, and each and every elevated thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God. I bring into captivity each and every thought to the obedience and compliance of Christ.
Lord, I take down and demolish imaginations, and each and every elevated thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of you. I bring into captivity each and every thought to the obedience and compliance of Christ, the Anointed One and the anointing.
Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
Father, I thank you that the law of the Spirit of life in the Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
I think on things that are true, I think on things that are honest, I think on things that are just, I think on things that are pure, I think on things that are lovely, I think on things that are of a good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, I think on these things.
Father, in obedience to your word, I think on things that are true, I think on things that are honest, I think on things that are just, I think on things that are pure, I think on things that are lovely, I think on things that are of a good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, I think on these things.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-8 It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong or take advantage of a brother or sister. The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God, the very God who gives you his Holy Spirit.
Father God, I want to do your will and avoid sin. I want to control my body in a way that is honorable to you since you have called me to live a holy life.
Hebrews 4:14-16 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
I have a great high priest, Jesus, the Son of God; therefore, I hold fast my profession, my confession. Jesus is touched with the feeling of my infirmities; he was tempted just like me, but he didn't sin. I therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that I may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Lord Jesus, Son of God, you are my great high priest; therefore, I hold fast my profession, my confession. Jesus, you are touched with the feeling of my infirmities; you were tempted just like me, but you didn't sin. I therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, and I receive mercy and grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Since I am surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, I lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and I run with endurance the race that is set before me, looking unto Jesus, the founder and perfecter of my faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, thinking nothing of the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Heavenly Father, since I am surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, I lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and I run with endurance the race that is set before me, looking unto Jesus, the founder and perfecter of my faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, thinking nothing of the shame, and is seated at the right hand of your throne Lord God.
2 Timothy 2:22 Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
Lord, help me to run from forbidden desires and run towards righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on you from a pure heart.
Ephesians 5:1 (Amplified Bible) Therefore be imitators of God [copy Him and follow His example], as well-beloved children [imitate their father].
I am an imitator of my Father God. I copy Him and follow His example, as a well-beloved child.
Father God, I seek to imitate you. I copy you and follow your example, as a well-beloved child.
Colossians 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son.
Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace, .
God has delivered and rescued me from the power of darkness, removing me from it and into the kingdom of his dear son Jesus. Sin shall not rule over me; I'm under grace.
Father God, you have delivered and rescued me from the power of darkness, removing me from it and into the kingdom of your dear son, Jesus. Thank you that sin shall no longer rule over me, for I'm under grace.
John 8:31-32 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
I continue, remain, and abide in the Word, and I am indeed a disciple of Jesus. I know the truth, and the truth has made me free.
Lord Jesus, I continue, remain, and abide in your Word, and I am indeed a disciple of yours. I know the truth, and I receive and thank you for freedom.
John 17:15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
God keeps me from evil. He separates and purifies me through his word.
Father God, I come into agreement with the prayer of Jesus in John 17. I believe that you keep me from evil through your word.
Psalm 107:2 Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy.
I am redeemed of the Lord. The Lord has redeemed me from the hand of the enemy. I am redeemed from bondage to sin.
I am redeemed of the Lord. Father God, the Lord Jesus has redeemed me from the hand of the enemy. I am redeemed from bondage to sin.
James 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
I submit myself to God and his word. I resist and oppose the devil, and he flees from me.
Father, I submit myself to you and your word. I resist and oppose the devil, and he flees from me.
1 Corinthians 15:34 Awake to righteousness, and sin not.
2 Corinthians 5:21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Isaiah 54:17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.
I awake to righteousness, and will not sin. God made Jesus to be sin for me and I am the righteousness of God in Jesus. No weapon of sin that is formed against me shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against me in judgment I shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and my righteousness is of the Lord.
Heavenly Father, according to your word, I awake to righteousness, and will not sin. Because you made Jesus to be sin for me, I am the righteousness of God in Jesus. No weapon of sin that is formed against me shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against me in judgment I shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and my righteousness is of the Lord.
John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
Matthew 22:37-39 (NKJV) Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"
I love Jesus and I carefully attend to his commandments. I love the Lord my God with all my heart, with all my soul, and with all my mind, and I love others as myself.
Father God, because I love Jesus, I carefully attend to his commandments. I love you Lord God with all my heart, with all my soul, and with all my mind, and I love others as myself. In Jesus' name I pray, amen!
